The Herculean Code originated in Montebrucia with the Order of Hercules, the militant arm of the Olympetic Church. The Order’s paladins pray principally to Hercules, Athena, and Ares: strength, wisdom, and war seated together at one table. One may learn a great deal about an institution from the gods it expects to agree.

Among practitioners of the arcane arts, the adopted magical identity is called a nom de arcana. In ordinary Anglish, it is a spell-name. The custom is often dismissed as vanity by people whose names have never been used to draw a summoning circle.

Seven buoys mark the Wolf Line outside Crescent Harbor. They are black and purple, each fitted with a silver plate bearing the wolf of Santa Belaria. Foreign captains are advised to learn their position before approaching La Loba.

A city may be founded upon stone, fear, hunger, or gold. Santa Belaria was founded upon all four and improved considerably by accounting.
